This is the biggest question for all restores. How much time does it take. There are some factors to consider when trying to figure out how long it's going to take. |
The chart bellow is just an estimate based on research I have done online averaging all methods of restoring. Some methods produce faster results then others. |

Tension Settings
The chart bellow will give you an idea of what I consider low to high tension. The minutes are how long I was able to wear. The device before having the need to remove the DTR for one minute because of discomfort. After that minute I would re-apply the DTR. I would not use a tension that would cause me sharp pain since I think this would do more harm then good. I would adjust the rod to create more tension and set the thumb screw to hold it at that desired tension.

I used the DTR 5 hours a day during the week and 5-8 hours a day on the weekends for a total of 24 months. The tension I used varied from high to low. I would set the tension higher by pushing the rod in and setting the thumb screw. Then if it became uncomfortable I would release the thumb screw and let the auto tension provided by the elastic take over for awhile. I would repeat this process during the restoring time for that day. I did some night tugging with my chest harness using the DTR as a tugger. It was at a very low tension and a lot of times I would unclip the thing when I was sleeping. So night tugging was not a big factor in my restoring, plus it is dangerous. |

Devices you choose will play a large role because of the amount of force you can apply. Take 0-rings for example, There force is low due to the fact it's using the shaft skin for tension. Using weights or an elastic strap on a tugging device would give you a higher tension rating. Dial devices ( such as a DTR ) can give you the highest tension in my opinion. I think some variety is good also. Changing the tension and even using more than one technique. The amount of hours you restore every day is a big debate among restorers. There hasn't been a control study on this subject to really have proof on what works best. All you can do is see what other men have done and decide for yourself. The main thing is consistency. Make sure you have a routine that your going to be able to do everyday! |
